United Kingdom Allows Casino Advertisements on TV
Casino Advertisements will be seen on the television in the United Kingdom starting in September of 2007
The new law allows betting shops and gambling sites to place their ads on TV.
Following the United Kingdom Gambling Act last year, the new guidelines will allow the casino operators to advertise.
Under the proposal, restrictions would be made to protect young people and the vulnerable.
Advertisers are not also allowed to propose that gambling is a means to achieve financial stability.
On Tuesday, a public consultation about the guideline of casino advertisements will be held. The finalized policies will be implemented in 2007 when the Gambling Act will finally be imposed.
The Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) and the Broadcast Committee of Advertising Practice (BCAP) will launch the consultation jointly.
CAP and BCAP chairman, Andrew Brown, said the prevailing responsibility is to ensure that gambling ads will avoid the exploitation of children and other vulnerable groups.
Advertising Standards Authority will be responsible to make sure that new gambling adverts conform to the rules.
According to the proposed rules, gambling adverts should not link gambling to seduction, but concerned groups are voicing out their fears over the TV advertisements.
Captain Matt Spencer, spokesman of Salvation Army said that they are concerned on how it will affect the society.
According to Spencer, ads might influence stimulate people to gamble more.
